
Dean Jonathan P. Sale obtained his Bachelor of Arts (major in Political Science), Bachelor of Laws, Master of Industrial Relations (with academic excellence), and Doctor of Public Administration (as top graduate) from the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman. A member of the Philippine Bar, he is assistant professor at the UP School of Labor and Industrial Relations and was Chairman of the UP Diliman Student Disciplinary Tribunal. He is also Secretary of the Philippine Society for Labor and Social Security Laws, Inc. – the Philippine chapter of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Laws based in Geneva, Switzerland. He has published articles and papers in the peer-reviewed Philippine Journal of Labor and Industrial Relations (for which he was also Editor), OIDA International Journal of Sustainable Development and others. He has presented papers and delivered lectures on a variety of topics like labor and social legislation, labor dispute settlement/conflict management and resolution, international trade and development, decision making, labor market institutions, the informal sector/economy, exit, voice, risks, and collaboration in call centers, administrative behavior and relationships, and labor market governance, among others. As a practicing lawyer, he counsels for labor, business and other organizations in different forums. He has successfully argued labor cases (on employment benefits and tenure) decided by the Philippine Supreme Court in favor of employees of foreign and domestic corporations.
Atty. Sale was invited to present papers at the 15th International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA) World Congress and the 19th International Society for Labour and Social Security Law (ISLSSL) World Congress both held in Sydney, Australia in August and September 2009. He was identified as an expert contributor by the World Justice Project for its 2010 Rule of Law Index. He was invited to present papers at the 47th Canadian Industrial Relations Association (CIRA) Annual Congress/International Interuniversity Research Centre on Globalization and Work (CRIMT) Conference in Université Laval, Quebec, Canada and at the Summer Congress 2010/International Development Conference of the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Law (ICIRL), Centre for Research in Social Justice and Policy (CRSJP) and Ontario International Development Agency (OIDA) in Laurentian University, Ontario, Canada both held in June 2010. He has been asked to be part of the Editorial Board of the Revised Guidebook for Effective Employers to be published by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines. And in November 2010, he was awarded Natatanging Alumni ng Paaralan ng Paggawa at mga Ugnayan sa Industriya (UP School of Labor and Industrial Relations) for Research and Labor Education.
Recently, Atty. Sale was invited to an international research project on legal origins and, once more, to the World Justice Project’s 2011 Rule of Law Index as an expert contributor. On invitation, he also presented a paper at the June 2011 Working-Class Studies Association Conference in the University of Illinois-Chicago, USA.
