UP SOLAIR Hosts HR Summit 2024: Empowering Human Capital for Industry Productivity and Competitiveness

Quezon City, Philippines – The University of the Philippines School of Labor and Industrial Relations (UP SOLAIR) successfully hosted the much-awaited HR Summit 2024 on December 9, 2024, at the Isabelo de los Reyes Auditorium, Bonifacio Hall. With the theme “Empowering Human Capital for Industry Productivity and Competitiveness,” the event brought together the country’s leading minds in the various sectors to share their expertise and insights in driving workplace excellence and organizational success.

The IR 222 (HRD at the Firm Level) class, with their adviser Dr. Virgel C. Binghay, organized the summit in collaboration with UP SOLAIR and the Center for Industry Productivity and Competitiveness (CIPC). It was a vibrant gathering for knowledge-sharing on enhancing human capital to boost industry competitiveness.

Distinguished speakers shared their expertise and presented their viewpoints while Dr. Binghay acted as the moderator throughout the discussion:

Mr. Jo-Dann N. Darong Director III of the Competitiveness Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) whose expertise underscored innovation on talent management as well as creation of guiding frameworks to standardize the overall approach and address issues of human resource management at the national level.

Mr. Enrique C. Castillo, President & CEO –PTC Logistics and President & COO-AP Logistics Network Corp. who provided insights into actionable strategies for aligning HR strategies with organizational goals. He also emphasized the role of the leadership team in the overall process to help ensure proper implementation across the organization

Atty. Sonny G. Matula, Trade Union Leader and President of Federation of Free Workers emphasized the importance of employee rights in building a sustainable workforce. He highlighted adopting a human-centered approach to productivity through empowerment of human capital by prioritizing worker’s rights and well-being.

Each speaker captivated the audience with stimulating discussions, offering valuable takeaways for HR professionals, students, and industry leaders alike.

The summit highlighted the tripartite collaboration between employers, employees, and government, advancing human capital strategies to meet the industry’s demands. The discussion highlighted the need for inclusive environments and continuous learning in order to successfully navigate the future of work with resiliency and competitiveness.

The summit also featured an interactive Q & A session with the speakers and provided attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and gain deeper insights. Some of the questions focused on understanding the challenges in human capital, achieving quick-wins, and future proofing through actionable insights.
