As part of the UP School of Labor and Industrial Relations (UP SOLAIR) advocacy of promoting employment and decent work, Dr. Virgel C. Binghay’s Industrial Relations 202: Work and Organization class organized the SOLAIR Job Fair 2024: Discover, Connect, Grow. The event was done in collaboration with the Quezon City Public Employment Service Office (QC PESO) and the Center for Industry Productivity and Competitiveness (CIPC). The Job Fair was held on the 5th of December 2024 at the Isabelo de los Reyes Auditorium at UP SOLAIR.

The job fair provided a bridge which linked companies to potential talent and for job seekers to discover opportunities for employment and career development. It was attended by over 40 job seekers and participated by 21 companies ready to recruit new talent, 16 of which reported that they were able to get on-the-spot hires. The Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) was also there to assist job seekers, companies, and other attendees with any inquiries related to their programs.

The event kicked-off with opening remarks by Dr. Virgel C. Binghay (Professor 12), distinguished academic and global thought leader. In his opening remarks, he highlighted the importance of pahinungod (a Cebuano term which means selfless offering of oneself), the event being one way for the class to serve the country and join UP SOLAIR in advancing its advocacy of promoting employment and decent work. His guidance and leadership was vital in helping his IR 202 class organize the event.

The event also gave job seekers the opportunity to understand how to successfully grab opportunities for employment. Among our distinguished speakers were Mr. Migs Abellar who spoke on properly preparing for interviews, Ms. Grace Guevarra who helped job seekers craft an effective curriculum vitae, and Coach Darwin Rivers who enlightened everyone about the rights of employees.
