From 8-5 to 24/7 Hustle: Exploring the Impact of Gig Economy

The rise of gig work is transforming the world of employment! On June 8th, 2024, Dr. Verna Dinah Viajar's Industrial Relations 204 class hosted an insightful webinar titled "From 8-5 to 24/7 Hustle: Exploring the Impact of Gig Economy". With over 200 attendees, the event shed light on the implications of gigification on workers’ rights and workforce management.

Highlights included:
• Opening remarks by Dr. Verna Dinah Viajar
• Video interviews with gig workers Khirsten Jardeleza, Coily Lozada, and John Philip Cruz
• Legal insights by Atty. Alvin Liao Alburo
• Workforce management analysis by Coach Darwin Rivers

Participants praised the event as “concise, informative, and very practical,” appreciating the depth of discussions on gig work. A key takeaway: labor is people, and we must prepare for the impact of gig work to ensure no one is left behind.

Thank you to our amazing professor, speakers, and attendees for making this event a success!
